Local Pastors of Mega-ish-Church Buy Scandalous Lunch at Cheddars

chickenThe state of Oklahoma was in an uproar Monday as they learned of local pastors Jerry and Rena Wilmouth purchasing $8.99 lunch specials at the Cheddars in Tulsa.

The event occurred Sunday afternoon just following their morning service at Sanctity Praise Center, where attendance is said to sometimes top 110 churchgoers.

“I’ve seen this happen before,” a local townsperson who wished to remain anonymous commented. “They just pulled into the gas station, filled their 2005 Ford with 87 octane fuel, and started driving to Cheddars. It was shocking.”

Pastors Jerry and Rena then, according to sources, ordered a lunch plate at Cheddars with two additional ice teas. With lemon. And lime.

Tom Johnson, server at the restaurant, was on staff at the time of the incident. “I couldn’t believe it,” he reported. “I looked over and there they were, putting barbecue sauce on the moderately-priced chicken meal. Pastor Rena was not only eating her two included side portions but had added a fifty-cent honey crescent roll to the tab. I know customers consider the butter-drenched crescents to be delectable, but this was taking it too far.”

The Wilmouths have long been criticized for their spending habits and yearly earnings, which are reported to be almost comparable to the national average household income. On Labor Day weekend this year, Pastor Jerry was spotted purchasing polo-style shirts at the Men’s Wearhouse annual sale. “They were two-for-one,” Pastor Rena commented. “And the animal embroidered on the front is a small Shetland pony instead of a polo horse.”

The Wilmouths defended their food choice Monday afternoon, saying that they had actually split the lunch special and added an extra side to be more budget-conscious. Server Tom Johnson still estimated the tab at topping $15.50.

Witnesses say the Wilmouths paid with an uncreased twenty dollar bill and told the server to keep the change. The boards of several surrounding non-affiliated organizations are investigating.

I was convicted by your post. I have been known to go to the KFC Buffet for lunch and spend upwards of $8 including beverage. Thanking you for your willingness to point out waste on the part of ministers. We should be leading the way when it comes to stewardship and frugality.

PS I love good satire 🙂
